Glasgow Buddhist Centre

GBC "visual identity" aggregator.

GBC approached me to help them achieve a cohesive rebranding.

As with many charities and voluntary groups, a multitude of people had carried out  "freebie" design work. This had left them with a hotch potch of unrelated stationery, marketing & signage. The first job was to gather together all the visual elements currently in use. They wanted the identity artwork to aim to bring together all the disparate elements, it had to evolve from this rather than sever all ties to the past.

There were two distinct phases to the work, the first referenced the physical locale of the centre. Glasgow tenement, being "grounded" and rooted in the everyday. The second transformation came about with the appointment of a new Director at the GBC. Having come back inspired from regular pilgrimages to India, it was now felt that the historical Buddha had to be linked in to the design work.

There was a feeling that the work that had gone before was more "lifestyle" orientated, promoting health benefits. They now wanted to be unashamedly seen as Buddhists with a rich historical tradition and strong links rooted in India. The artwork had to be an evolution of what had gone before.

The imagery used is both beautiful and rich with Buddhist symbolism.  The work chimed well at the Centre and beyond attracting many new visitors and course participants.
